Milan Smit is a Rotterdam-based cinematographer who began his journey at the Willem de Kooning Academy but left early to fully commit to cinematography. After completing a lighting course at the Nederlandse Filmacademie and an internship as a spark under Eugene Sprik, Milan worked for several years in the lighting department. His strong foundation in lighting gives him a unique approach to his work as a DOP, collaborating closely with directors to craft a distinct visual style for each project.
Milan has shot for top brands such as LG, Heineken, Bonne Suits, and MediaMonks, and his films have screened at prestigious festivals like IFFR and NFF, with notable works including Greetings from Wormhole 61 (IFFR 2023), Kill the Baby (NFF 2023), and English Breakfast (NFF 2021). In 2024, Milan won Best Cinematography at the 48 Hour Film Project Rotterdam with the film Een Golf.
